Guidelines for Contributors
- Australian Literary Studies follows the current edition of the MLA Handbook, using parenthetical documentation and a list of Works Cited. Where an essay makes extensive use of unpublished materials, it is preferable to use footnotes to reference this material.
- Single inverted commas are used.
- Submissions should be double-spaced.
- The name and contact details of the author, including postal address, should appear on a separate cover page.
- Length of contributions is generally 5 000 words for Articles, 2 500 words for Notes, and 1 000 words for Reviews. In special circumstances longer articles may be accepted.
- Unsolicited Articles and Notes are welcomed, but unsolicited Book Reviews are generally not accepted.
- Essays on Australian literature are published in the May and October issues of ALS.
- Contributions should be saved as a Word file or an .rtf file (authorname.doc or authorname.rtf) and sent to Leigh Dale.
- Essays should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration elsewhere.
Copyright in articles remains vested in the authors. Except as permitted under the Copyright Act (1968) as amended (for example, a fair dealing for the purposes of study, research, criticism or review), no part of this publication may be reproduced, stored in a retrieval system, or communicated or transmitted in any form or by any means without prior written permission. All inquiries should be made to the Manager.
